| Sizes
We offer the following tile sizes as standard. Please remember that we can also produce any other tile size required, including circles.
| Square: |
5 x 5
10 x 10
15 x 15
20 x 20
30 x 30 |
Rectangular: |
2.5 x 30
5 x 20
10 x 30 |
The size format of the tile will obviously affect the look of the design, so here are some examples from each of our collections to show how the design is applied to the most popular sizes. All dimensions are shown in centimetres at 1:5 scale.
 |
| Stripe (using Neopolitan as the example): |
| Stripes can be applied horizontally or vertically, stretched or repeated across the tile - your choice. |

| Spiral (using Cobalt as the example): |
| The spiral shape does not lend itself to the border tile format, but on request we can produce co-ordinating border tiles utilising any of the colours from the Spiral designs. |

| Lazio (using Rieti as the example): |
The position of the coloured pieces is deliberately at random, and each tile will therefore look slightly different. |

| Customers should please specify if particular positioning is desired. Usually one coloured piece will be used in a 5x5 tile, and thereafter the larger the tile the more pieces used. Co-ordinating Lazio borders can be produced by applying the particular colour all over the tile (as in the 2.5x20 example shown). |

| Colonsay and Earth (using Red Granite as the example): |
The pattern is continued over the tile, whatever the size format. |

Our tiles are made and finished entirely by hand and therefore all sizes given are approximate to within a mm or two; this does not usually present a problem as any slight irregularity can be compensated for with the tile grout. If we are told at the time of ordering that precise sizes are important we will take this into account.
Edge finishes
We have designed our glass tiles to create a feature when installed with complementary plainer tiles. We recommend that our tile be allowed to sit slightly proud of the tiles surrounding or adjacent to it, by at least 3mm. This allows light to pass into the tile from the sides, further highlighting the rich colours and vibrant textures within the glass.
For this reason, after our tiles have been created in the kiln by fusing several layers of glass and colour together, we then grind the each edge of the tile by hand, using a series of four differently graded diamond discs followed by a final polishing pad. The result is a beautifully polished and clean finish with a high shine, which you won’t want to hide away with tile grout! This is referred to as our ‘jewel finish’.
However we recognise that not all customers will want the effect of the glass tiles sitting proud, and would rather that they sit flush with the surrounding plain tiles – in which case the polished edge will be hidden. We have therefore introduced the option to purchase our tiles at a lower price in their un-finished state, which means that the edges have not been ground and polished (ie our ‘plain finish’).
Customers wishing to purchase tiles with the plain finish option should note that the grinding and polishing process normally undertaken also helps to form the tiles into near perfect squares, rectifying any movement of the tile layers that may have occurred while the tiles were fired in the kiln. Plain finish tiles may not be as perfectly shaped as the jewel finish versions, but when set in with a 2mm or 3mm grout line this can be compensated for.
Fixing
A good quality ceramic tile adhesive can be used, so long as it is flexible, and clear or white in colour. Grout should also be flexible. Our tiles are made with a special rough surface to the back, which not only creates a key for the adhesive, but ensures that the adhesive will not be seen through the tile.
Thickness
Our tiles and splashbacks vary in thickness according to the design. Some designs, such as the Stripe and Retro series are flat and have a thickness of approximately 9mm. Designs such as the Colonsay and Lazio series have an undulating surface, and the thickness varies from approximately 9mm up to 14mm.
Cleaning
Our glass is easy to keep clean with simply warm water, washing up liquid and a soft sponge. Finish by polishing with a soft, dry cloth. Abrasive materials and boiling hot water should not be used.
Colours
The colours of our products shown on this website have been reproduced as accurately as possible; however we suggest you ask about sample arrangements if you are seeking to match a very specific shade. Please also note that due to the handmade nature of our products it is not possible for every tile or splashback to be identical, and very small variances from the design images shown may sometimes occur.
